About the Crisis:
Every day the small town of Molyvos, Lesvos (Greece) receives up to 5,000-8,000 refugees who have escaped, mostly from Syria. Crammed by the hundreds on rickety inflatable rafts, they cross the cold and treacherous waters of the Aegean Sea between Turkey and Greece, the same distance between Whidbey Island and Port Townsend. With no organized services available, the people of Lesvos have created Starfish Foundation: a grassroots network that provides basic necessities such as water, food, dry clothing, blankets and rudimentary medical care. It is difficult to imagine the courage of these people fleeing with their lives, and the volunteers who are working around the clock to provide relief. We offer a night of music and solidarity, sending a beacon of support from our beloved Port Townsend.
